Sometimes a smile is worthier than thousands of words. Especially the smile of these little creatures is one of the things that filled my heart with joy. It's not easy to describe this feelings throughout words. I know that people who experienced the same can perfectly understand what I'm talking about. I went to Colombia thinking to help these children, but the truth is, they helped me. They thought me that we can be happy even though we don't possess anything, that it's possible to smile always and to enjoy the little things that life gives us on a daily basis. It's possible to appreciate everything that happens us, from a kind word of a friend, to a hug of a relative. Everything can be transformed and seen as a gift that is given to us. We actually have to feel lucky for what we have and the possibilities that are given to us. These people don't have everything but are grateful to be alive. And that's what they told me. The initial barrier between me and these children was the language. At first we communicated with gestures or just with a warm smile. A smile that I still remember because it literally warmed my heart up. Then I started learning spanish, and after I month I could communicate with this people and completely enter into their world. I hope to manage to go back to Cartagena this June, because that's where I have and always will leave a part of my soul. That's where I made the most genuine laughter and had genuine fun with them and I think that it's important to remember that a smile can definitely change your day, or the day of someone else.
Smile, people.
Love,
V.
